River Rush

At the beginning of the first lockdown I decided to better my skills in Unity and C# by developing a more complex game than any I had worked on beforehand.

The gameplay itself is relatively simple - your boat moves automatically and you must dodge the oncoming obstacles. More complex gameplay comes in when you increase the difficulty and the speed picks up.

There are 4 difficulties to choose from, making the game accessible to almost anyone.

Along the way, you may encounter fish that you can collect and spend on new ships. Currently there are 4 ships to choose from: the basic barge, the coal powered ship, the speedboat, and the pirate ship.

Adding un-lockable ships and high-scores gives the player something to keep coming back for.

This project was my first introduction to the world of Unity Ads. Although I don't expect this game to produce much revenue, implementing them was a fantastic learning experience as it allowed me the knowledge to implement them in my other mobile game - Colour Correct

Although this game came out after Colour Correct, development began several months beforehand. Issues arose surrounding the project and it was shelved for a while until January 2021 where I managed to find the time to finally polish it off, fix the bugs I was having, and release it to the play store.

It is by far the most complicated game I have worked on yet, with many interconnected systems and features I had never worked on before. It provided quite a beneficial learning experience and was a project I am glad to have worked on and released.

Tools used: Unity, C#, GitKraken, Unity Ads, Unity Post-Processing, Android Studio, Google Play Store
